How To Increase Metabolism : It’s All In The Size of Your Thighs!

The whole point of attempting to learn how to increase metabolism is so that you can lose weight more easily and swiftly and to make long-term weight management problems disappear into thin air.

What every dieter aims to achieve is a slimmer body and to be able to easily fit into a smaller size of jeans. However, results published in the British Medical Journal of a long term study conducted by Professor Berit Heitmann of Copenhagen University Hospital details a link bewteen the of the size of a person’s thighs and a greater risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and heart failure.

No surprises there, you might think except an increased risk factor has been shown to be associated with skinnier thighs, not fatter ones, irrespective of other contributory factors such as lifestyle and obesity levels.

It seems that if your thighs have a circumference of 60cm (23.6 inches), you may be at greater risk than you more chunkier peers, whether you are male or female.

This is worrying news for the many hundreds of thousands of people who are actively trying to reduce their body size by discovering how to increase metabolism and so lose excess weight as efficiently as possible. Type 2 Diabetes occurs because of increased resistance to insulin – the hormone responsible for balancing blood sugar levels – which, in turn causes damage to your metbolism, slowing it down and reducing the rate at which you burn energy. As this rate slows, more fat is stored because of unburned energy and your weight loss grinds to a virtual halt.

So although Professor Heitmann’s study was not specifically focussed on weight loss metabolism, it clearly has implications for those who are desperately trying to reduce their body weight.

Is there a solution to this puzzle? Can you strike a happy balance and avoid compromising your long-term health whilst achieving thinner thighs?

Thankfully, yes!

Professor Heitmann concluded that the problem with skinny thighs is that they had too low a muscle mass and therefore bulking up that mass could eliminate the risk of diabetic and heart health problems in the future. His advice to those who do have skinny thighs is to increase their level of physical activity and work towards building up their thigh muscles by taking appropriate exercise.

And as muscle cells burn more energy than fat cells, a greater level of healthy muscle mass actively works towards increasing your metabolism and raises your resting metabolic rate – that is, the number of calories needed to maintain your body’s functions when nor expending energy on anything other activity.
